What fences do Cupertino homes need?
- Quality privacy fences for larger homes on the valley floor.
- Stepped fences and retaining walls on sloped lots toward the foothills.
- Open wire or metal fencing near open space, where deer browse gardens.
- Pool barriers for back-yard pools and spas.
How do you build on a slope?
On sloped lots, we either step the fence in level sections or rack the panels to follow the grade, depending on the material. Posts at each step carry more load, so they go deeper. Where the yard drops sharply at the line, a retaining wall may be needed, and taller walls can need a permit and engineering.
Are there fire or wildlife considerations?
Parts of the foothills border open space and may be in mapped fire hazard areas. Near the house, a metal section or gate instead of wood can help, and so can keeping dry plants off the fence line. For deer, height and openness matter more than material.
Whose rules apply in Cupertino?
The City of Cupertino has its own fence rules, separate from Santa Clara's, and hillside properties can have additional standards. We check your parcel's rules before the final design.
What will it cost?
Hillside work and premium materials raise the per-foot price. Our cost guide lists published ranges, and your written quote gives the real number.
